Guide to City Center from Tainan Airport : By Bus

Summer vacation just in front of us, nothing better enjoying holiday than traveling to another part of the world. If you are planning to go to Tainan, one of the entry point is Tainan Airport which have several flights from abroad such as from Vietnam, Hong Kong and Japan.

Going to city center from Tainan Airport is very easy, because the airport was not too big, so is less-exhausted walking from arrival gate to the exits. Tainan Airport has three exits, left, middle and right side. Left side near the check in area, middle exit near to Tourist Information Center and right exit door near gate 2.

Before you start to take ride, either by taxi or by public transportation such as bus. Please check your belonging again to make sure nothing left behind. Here in Tainan Airport you also can buy 4G sim card for internet data at the store near the waiting zone, it helps you to travel in Taiwan. And you may pick one or two travel maps at Tourist Information Center, later it will help you to decide what place you must visited.

If you want to go to city center using the cheapest method, my suggestion is using Tainan City Bus. If don't have any Taiwan payment card such as Easy card or I-pass card, you can pay it using exact amount by NT$ coin. One way traveling using bus if using cash (NT$ coin) is NT$18 (2019) but because paying NT$18 is hassle, we usually just insert two NT$10 coins. The advantages if you use Easy card or I-pass card, you may get discounted price for next trip using any bus in the same day.

Tainan Airport has two nearest bus stops (actually in front of the airport), and it little bit tricky to notice which one is the fastest bus stop to city center. So, if your position is still inside the building please take right exit door to go to the bus stop called Tainan Airport (Chimei Happiness Factory) the bus direction are to Tainan Train Station or Tainan Park (both places located in city center) since Tainan Train Station is main hub for transportation in Tainan. To identify this bus stop, the characters area this bus stop is smaller than other bus stop in Tainan Airport area, you need to walk accross the street, and near the traffic light.

The buses which will stop here and go to Tainan Train Station is bus number 5 and number Red 3 (紅3). To know how long you need to wait for the buses, you can see in the LED information screen in the bus stop or using app Tainan City Bus, and search for bus stop: Tainan Airport (Chimei Happiness Factory) or  visit Tainan City Bus interactive website. If the bus is arriving, you need to raise your hand to flag off the bus, because the driver only stop the bus by request.

Pay your fare when you enter the bus, if using both card I've mentioned before just tap the card to machine (card reader), but if using cash just put your money to the moneybox next to the driver. Sit and relax, in the bus you can notice information in two language, Chinese and English, but mostly driver just speaking Chinese and you need to learn, notice the Chinese character by yourself. If your destination is next station, please push stop button, located above your head or in the handle bar. If you use the card you need to tap again before exit, and just step out the bus if you use cash before.

Tips: Use 4Gsmartcity to get free internet, change the language to English and register your device if you did not purchased 4G data card or not applying data roaming. And Chinese character of Tainan Train Station is 臺南火車站, (臺南:Tainan, 火車:Train 站:Station) it can be written in three different writing direction, left to right like this example, right to left (old style / less frequent) or top to bottom.
